Indigenous People In North America

For millennia, Indigenous peoples have been living in North America, within many Nations and among broadly diverse cultures. Native people played prominent roles throughout the period of European colonization, in the Revolutionary War, and during westward expansion. Indigenous people continue to resist ongoing challenges to sovereignty and representation. How Native peoples have been remembered in collective memory is a history unto itself, in which Jefferson played no small role.
